GM to shut down Saturn after Penske terminates talks with GM on uncertain future assembly
DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday it would shut down its Saturn brand after an agreement with Penske Automotive Group Inc. to acquire it fell apart.
Penske, citing concerns of whether it could continue to supply vehicles after a manufacturing contract with GM ran out, ended talks with GM Wednesday to acquire the brand.
GM CEO Fritz Henderson said in statement that Saturn and its dealership network will be phased out.
"This is very disappointing news and comes after months of hard work by hundreds of dedicated employees and Saturn retailers who tried to make the new Saturn a reality," Henderson said in a written statement. "PAG's announcement explained that their decision was not based on interactions with GM or Saturn retailers."
In a statement, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based auto retailer says an agreement with another manufacturer to continue producing Saturn vehicles after GM stopped making them fell through, leading Penske to terminate talks with GM.
Penske said it negotiated terms and conditions to make Saturn cars with another manufacturer, but that company's board of directors rejected the agreement. Penske spokesman Anthony Pordon would not identify the other manufacturer.
"Without that agreement, the company has determined that the risks and uncertainties related to the availability of future products prohibit the company from moving forward with this transaction," the company said in a statement.
In June, GM and Penske agreed to take over the Saturn brand and related dealerships, although GM would produce the vehicles for a limited period of time.
GM said Saturn vehicle owners can still go to their Saturn dealer for service and would be able to go to a certified GM dealer for service once Saturn dealerships are closed.
It was expected that GM would announce the completion of Saturn's sale to Penske in the coming days.
Share of Penske fell $1.93 to $17.25 in after hours trading. They rose $1.32, or 7.4 percent to $19.18 in regular trading Wednesday.

Space-tech Missile Tested in Iran
A long-range Sejil missile was launched in Iran on Monday. According to Iranian TV’s Arabic language news station, the missile was launched at 10 a.m .local time.
The weapon uses the same kind of technology that is used for satellites and rockets launched into space.
Alalam's correspondent says the missile is not restricted by certain geographic locations, and could be launched from anywhere in Iran.
Iranian Officials previously said that the Sejil has a range of up to 1,240 miles (2,000 kilometers).
Washington is calling the test firing a "provocative" act, coming as it does just days ahead of Tehran's meeting with major powers.
U.S. defense officials say the missile has the range to hit Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.

India Forces NASA to Accept ET Presence
Indian Space Reserach Oragization's probe finds water in Moon, NASA decides to accept the fact that it knew for decades - next step extraterrestrial presence on moon?
NASA now agrees that lots and lots of water is present in the moons surface. That also shows the abundance of water in the universe. Interestingly, NASA all of a sudden starts talking about water on the moon after India reveals that it found water from its Moon Impact Probe (MIP).
India's Moon Impact Probe (MIP) was the first instrument to detect water on the moon - way back in November last year when the spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 entered lunar orbit, space agency chief G. Madhavan Nair said here Friday.
''I am happy to share for the first time with all of you that the MIP, while it was descending from Chandrayaan to the moon Nov 14, 2008, picked up strong signals of water particles on the lunar surface,'' the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman told reporters in Bangalore.
Sources from Bangalore now say India plans to force NASA into accepting the Extraterrestrial presence in moon. NASA has all along denied such presence. It even denies the presence of any extraterrestrial objects or entities.
During its 20-minute descent from the Chandrayaan mother spacecraft until its impact near the pole, the 34-kg probe found the water particles varying from the lunar equator.
Indian Space Research Organization is under deep pressure from the Indian Government not to do anything that will antagonize Americans and NASA. But internally ISRO scientists and engineers are determined to expose the UFO phenomenon to the world.
The top management of ISRO is eager to satisfy the political demands of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is widely considered as a ‘Good Friend” of America.
''So, we have now multiple ways of confirming the presence of water on the moon. This is being acknowledged the world over as a real discovery. It is a path-breaking event as far as ISRO is concerned,'' an elated Nair said. The mass spectrometre in the MIP registered signatures of hydrogen, helium, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water. ''In that signature, we could see a strong component corresponding to a mass fraction of 18, which is nothing but water. We had a serious doubt at that time. From the initial data, we could see a clear trend of increasing magnitude in the water molecules as it goes towards the poles. It is in line with what has come from M3,'' Nair pointed out.

Not to be taken by people who have blood / brain barrier disfunction
Not to be given to children with developing brains
Not to be taken by pregnant woman
Not to be taken by people with neurological illnesses
Dr would absolutely not give to his own children
Also, the virus is loosing its strength as a deadly disease as it comes around the 2nd time.
